I am remodeling my garage into a family room. It has a concrete floor, but I am building a “wood floor” over it… putting down floor joists and a subfloor.

My question is – With this kind of construction, should I use 3/4″ plywood or 3/4 wafer board? And why

use ply wood wafer board is OK for siding but for flooring plywood is the proffered choice. wafer board is more susceptible to moisture then plywood

Plywood is the only way to go. Waferboard could swell if it gets wet.

plywood, o.s.b. (oriented strand board ) can buckle, also not a good base for tile or vinyl, unless you do a subfloor, why do an additional cost.. good luck

Plywood is better, both meet code if you mean OSB board when you write wafer board. Oriented Strand Board. The more important issue is sealing the concrete floor. Use UGL drylok or thoroseal applied to the concrete. Do not use a plastic vapor barrier on top of slab, moisture will still migrate through slab and collect under plastic…real nasty…….
